Inclusive Employment for Sustainable Packaging | 4 Vēji x MÁDARA Cosmetics

4 Vēji

The social enterprise 4 Vēji, was established in 2020 by Arnis Vējš and its parent company “Easypack” in Kalnciems, Latvia to support adults with mental disabilities. In collaboration with the Multifunctional Social Services Centre “LAIPA,” the enterprise provides meaningful job opportunities, tailoring tasks to each individual's abilities. While primarily manufacturing corrugated paper, cardboard, and cardboard containers, 4 Vēji also produces handmade items like soap, bracelets, and ceramics, ensuring inclusive employment for all.

The partnership with MÁDARA Cosmetics

MÁDARA Cosmetics is a pioneering brand from Northern Europe, renowned for its commitment to natural beauty and sustainability. Using pure, ethically sourced ingredients, MÁDARA crafts effective skincare solutions while upholding environmental responsibility. The brand is ECOCERT certified, ensuring the highest standards of natural and organic production. With a focus on transparency and innovation, MÁDARA offers products that nurture both your skin and the planet, all packaged in FSC certified, recyclable packaging.

The partnership between 4 Vēji and MÁDARA Cosmetics began unexpectedly but has proven highly successful. Having previously worked with MÁDARA, 4 Vēji’s owner recognized that the social enterprise's expertise in producing cardboard packaging aligned well with MÁDARA needs. This synergy led MÁDARA to integrate 4 Vēji into their supply chain for cardboard packaging. Over time, both parties discovered the mutual benefits of this collaboration, resulting in a stable, long-term partnership that supports 4 Vēji’s social mission while fulfilling MÁDARA packaging requirements.

“One tip for other social enterprises is to determine the pricing for mainstream enterprises in advance. It’s crucial to create a test version and pilot it with your employees. When working with people with disabilities, technical estimates might suggest one price, but the actual time needed for production can vary significantly.”

- Arnis Vējš, the Founder of Social Enterprise 4 Vēji

The Impact

The partnership between 4 Vēji and MÁDARA Cosmetics has a profound positive impact, both socially and economically. It provides meaningful employment for people with mental disabilities, enhancing their integration into society, boosting their self-esteem, and improving their quality of life. This collaboration demonstrates how mainstream companies can create social value within their supply chains and set an example for others.

“Throughout the years, humanity has been a core value for MÁDARA. This project has allowed us to help people by providing meaningful employment opportunities. We are deeply grateful for our partnership with 4 Vēji and appreciate Arnis for managing the most challenging aspects of this arrangement. We hope that more traditional companies will view such collaborations as opportunities rather than burdens.”

- Edgars Lazda, Head of Warehouse and Logistics Department at MÁDARA Cosmetics
