Recycling that Empowers Inclusion | Recyclea x The Adecco Group

Recyclea

Recyclea is an adapted company specializing in second life management of IT equipment. They collect computer equipment from all over France and recondition it for reuse. Any equipment that cannot be reused is recycled for parts and materials are recovered for further upcycling where possible. Recyclea generated 15 million euros in turnover in 2021 using 450 tons of recycled IT equipment for 200 customers. They not only upcycle and recycle IT goods, but also 60% of their employees are with health conditions and impairments, with the average age of 42 years old.

Our commitment is to move towards an inclusive company, and to generate economic, social and environmental added value for a region, by offering a healthy and safe working environment for all.

The partnership

The Adecco Group saw the potential in Recyclea when they met at the Purchasing and Disability trade fair. The Adecco Group was the event's main partner and Recyclea was an exhibitor.

The Adecco Group recognised the benefit of working with Recyclea which is committed to a diversified, equitable and inclusive workforce. In practice, the collaboration means that Recyclea collects and packages digital electronic equipment from the offices of The Adecco Group based throughout France.  They then conduct functional testing, do a visual audit, secure the erasing of confidential data, and then issue a test report in compliance with regulations so that the equipment can be repurposed and resold.

The Adecco Group sees this as not only a responsible way to dispose of unwanted IT equipment but that this partnership allows them to support and highlight the importance of equal employment access for all workers, regardless of any distinctions. This is also a strong value within The Adecco group.

We collaborate very closely with the provider and have privileged relations with this very human and engaged company. We have already invited the director of Recyclea to some of our events to share his vision.

- Pierre-Yves Lanier, IT Digital Workplace manager at The Adecco group

The impact created

Social impact - 1 disabled person was employed over a period of 6 months, and received 10 hours of training. Recyclea’s disabled workforce comprises 60% of the company's total workforce of 182 employees. This is also reflected in the wider societal impact of 82% of the recycled products being returned to the region through responsible and local purchasing.

The Environmental impact  - 70% of digital electronic equipment (screens, computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones) was re-used, which is the equivalent of 10,883 tonnes of CO2 avoided in 2023 by all Recyclea customers.

The partnership plans to continue as both parties understand the long-term importance of the social and environmental impact the collaboration is making for business, society and the planet.
